YMCA Active Program Structure
YMCA Active is a full year program aligned with school terms. The program is delivered by an experienced co-ordinator who will bring a wealth of ideas and resources for increasing physical activity for students in your school. Over the course of the school year, students participate in a variety of activities which culminate in the end of year YMCA Active Expo:
TERM 1
1 x Meet and Greet with students including
- completion of a student survey
- voting for Term 2 and 3 sport clinics
2 x Class Team Building Workshops
Students participate in activities to develop and build life skills such as self confidence, socialisation and team work.
TERM 2
2 x School Sporting Clinics
Students are given the opportunity to vote on a selection of different sports clinics. The most popular are then delivered in-school and at their local Recreation Centre.
TERM 3
1 x Recreation Centre Visit
TERM 4
The YMCA Active Expo
The aim of this one day event is to expose the students to a range of new sports. Students participate in 8 x 30 minute clinics delivered by coaching staff from local and state sporting bodies. The Expo is attended by other local schools involved in the Active program too, providing a good networking opportunity to meet other kids they may be attending high-school with the following year.
Leadership Camp
Four students from each school are selected by the class teacher to attend the Leadership Camp. The Camp expands on skills developed in the Team Building Workshops and is designed to challenge students in a fun environment.
